Cos’è una Legend Car? Tutto quello che devi sapere
If you follow motorsport or have heard of the Legend Cars championship, you have probably asked yourself: what exactly is a Legend Car? These are the vehicles with which ACME Speedworks won the 2025 Italian Championship, and in this article, we tell you everything: from the origins to the mechanics, from the race format to the experience on the track.
Le origini: da dove nasce la Legend Car
Legend Cars originated in the United States in the 1990s, conceived by600 Racing Inc.(later becoming U.S. Legend Cars International) with a specific goal: to create an accessible, spectacular motorsport category with contained costs. The concept is simple yet brilliant: fibreglass bodies inspired by American cars from the 1930s and 1940s, mounted on a modern, lightweight tubular chassis.
The result? Vehicles that evoke the style of motorsport legends but with the performance of a true racing car. Hence the name:Legend Cars. Since their introduction, the championship has spread worldwide and in Italy, it has become one of the most exciting phenomena in national motorsport.
Scheda tecnica: cosa c’è sotto il cofano
Legend Cars are designed to be identical, so that the difference is made by the driver and not the wallet. The beating heart is the engineYamaha MT-09, a three-cylinder inline engine of 890 cc derived from the famous Japanese naked bike, prepared in the USA with dedicated camshafts, racing exhaust, and specific ECU. The result is an engine that delivers140+ hp — all this in a vehicle that weighs only 470 kg dry.

Perché le Legend Cars sono così speciali
The beauty of Legend Cars lies in the formula: identical cars, affordable costs, guaranteed spectacle. With all vehicles the same, every overtaking is down to the driver. No million-dollar budgets, no Formula 1 aerodynamics: just pure skill, courage, and strategy.
The power-to-weight ratio is impressive: 140 horsepower for 470 kg means blistering acceleration and extremely responsive handling. Races are always competitive, with continuous overtakes and minimal gaps. For spectators, it’s pure spectacle. For drivers, it’s pure adrenaline.
Il campionato Legend Cars in Italia
In Italy, the Legend Cars championship has become a true phenomenon, with increasingly crowded starting grids and a level of competition that grows year after year. Races take place on some of the country’s most iconic circuits, typically in sprint format with qualifying and multiple heats on the same day. This format concentrates the action and keeps the audience glued to the track from start to finish.
It is the ideal championship for both emerging drivers looking to gain experience and gentleman drivers seeking the thrill of real competition without the prohibitive costs of higher categories. In recent years, thanks in part to the visibility brought by content creators, Legend Cars have reached a huge audience, bringing thousands of new motorsport enthusiasts closer to the sport.
ACME Speedworks: nata dalle Legend Cars
ACME Speedworksis not a team that approached Legend Cars by chance. ACME was born from the passion ofLuigi Vittorio Maselli, who literally grew up behind the wheel of these cars. Luigi started racing at a very young age with the Legend Cars, gaining deep experience both in Italy and internationally, even competing on American ovals and at the World Finals in the United States.
From that passion, a bigger project was born: to build a team that combined technical expertise, vehicle preparation, and a racing spirit. Thus, ACME Speedworks was founded, now a reference point in the world of Legend Cars as a racing team and as a preparation and spare parts centre.
The result speaks for itself: in 2025, together with Alberto Naska, ACME Speedworks won theItalian Legend Cars Championship. This confirms that when passion meets expertise, results follow.
